2013 in Kink Edits!

We started off the year with one of my favorite watches for 2013…The Kink Travel Retrospective…

Some would say this trip went a little bit unnoticed by the general public…we took a BMX trip using a cruise ship! WTF right?

We premiered our 3rd full length DVD; Squash It!

We made the annual trip to Vegas for Interbike…

We added Australian rail boss, Calvin Kosovich to the family…

Chad Osburn put out a well received web part…

We added the homie Bob Randel to the family…

James Steele finished up a web part we’d been working on for a good part of the year. This was one of my personal highlights for the year. Traveling and filming for this throughout the year was so much fun. James went hard for Canada and for Kink.

Ben Hittle is moving on…

If you were fortunate enough to catch Ben Hittle’s interview in the Albion from this past summer, you may already be a bit familiar with Hittle and his situation. Ben has been a pro rider for a few years now, and deservedly so. Hittle is one of the most naturally gifted, and talented riders I have ever watched ride in person. No footage or photography could give justice to what Ben can do on his bike, with very little effort. Unfortunately the novelty of being able to control a BMX bike in any way you feel like, doesn’t always translate to what you are looking for in life. Life can move in a thousand different directions for anyone that dedicates and commits even a small part of themselves to this thing we do. The result is different for everyone, and for Hittle and Kink, it has reached a point where we both see the writing on the wall. When something feels more like a job than a hobby or passion…especially BMX riding…there’s a serious decision to be made. Ben Hittle is one of the most genuine BMX kids of our time. He has experienced and contributed to almost 3 generations of riders, trends, fads, and styles. Ben is self driven, self motivated, and self reliant, on the things that he believes in and the things that make him happy. He’s a very passionate guy, and neither himself nor Kink would ever be comfortable continuing forward with anything, if we weren’t both 100% committed and dedicated to everything we do. That being said, Ben will no longer be a paid, professional BMX rider for Kink. It is not easy writing something like this about one of your favorite riders of all time, but at the same time I am honored and stoked to not only have been a part of Hittle’s eclectic BMX career up to this point, but to have become close friends with him and shared a countless amount of unforgettable experiences together.

I realize we recently posted online that we weren’t losing any riders for 2014. This move was a bit unexpected for Kink and Ben Hittle, but timing is everything for better or worse. This is by no means an end to our relationship, considering we all remain very close to Hittle still, and we will continue to ride bikes together of all kinds. To be perfectly clear with everyone…this move is not the result of budget cuts, downsizing, or anything else that may or may not be happening in the BMX industry at the moment. This is a decision based purely on our love, passion and never ending desire to keep BMX as strong, pure and progressive as possible. We want nothing more than to help grow the industry, the riders, the brands and the relationships that keep the wheels turning each and everyday, no matter what state the industry is currently in.

I’d like to personally thank you for taking the time to read this, and allowing yourself to be that much more educated and in the know, on things that are happening around BMX. We can’t wait to see what 2014 has in store for us, good or bad…we’ll be here doing what we can do, to make it better. If this was all a bit too vague, leaving you confused or upset…just talk shit on me, not Kink.

Happy Holidays, see you on the road…
